Super Falcons of Nigeria lost 1-0 to the Reggae Girlz of Jamaica in their first match at the 2021 four-nation invitational tournament in Texas.

Deneisha Blackwood’s 51st minute strike ended the 9-time African champions’ seven-game unbeaten run at the BBVA Stadium, Texas on Thursday night.

Falcons last lost a game at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup against Germany.

The defeat against Jamaica is Randy Waldrum’s first since he took charge of the girls in 2020.

Tochukwu Oluehi denied Jamaica their opener when she stopped Blackwood’s spot kick in the 26th minute of play — after Glory Ogbonnaya committed a foul in the 18-yard box.

The Falcons attack, which was led by Francisca Ordega and Toni Payne, made several forage to level the scoreline but failed to breakdown the defensive wall of the Hue Menzie’s girls.

The Falcons will be looking forward to redeem their image on Sunday when they square up against Portugal in their second game.
